Ariassos
Built on both slopes of a narrow valley, to reach Ariassos travellers must climb up a winding Roman paved road. Once arrived, they are welcomed by the city’s monumental graves, whose elegant shapes are carved in stone. The senate house and the temples in the city centre can still be seen on a terrace above the settlement, while opposite stands the three-arched gate, Ariassos signature monument. At the bottom of the valley, visitors can appreciate the bath complex with its water fountains and the palaestra, a Roman version of the gym where however only young male citizens could enter. Up on the ridge, the fortification wall and its towers still stand to guard the ancient ruins.
